Frances Willard Schoolhouse

The Frances Willard School program provides an immersive environment designed to facilitate understanding of the one-room school in 19th and early 20th century America. Period clothing, reading and math materials, games, and behaviors are used to demonstrate the operation of the one-room school and the early education goal of instilling practical, academic, moral, and spiritual values in children. Each spring and fall, nearly 1,200 third graders from Rock County and the surrounding area participate in 60 two-hour sessions led by a team of dedicated volunteers. If you like working with children and are interested in area history, consider becoming a Frances Willard School volunteer. Teaching experience is not a requirement.

Fall classes run in September. Spring classes run in May. Special arrangements can be made to suit your instructional needs. There will also be programs daily during the Rock County 4H Fair.
